Curriculum

At Acacia Junior School, we aim to help children develop skills, concepts, knowledge and attitudes through a broad and balanced curriculum which is relevant to modern day society. Therefore, Acacia Junior School’s curriculum is derived from the new Primary and Secondary Education System Reform of Zimbabwe (2016-2020)

Our primary emphasis is on teaching the basic skills since everything which follows depends upon the mastery of these.

The core curriculum at Key Stages 1 and 2 comprises:

Infant School (from ECD to Grade 2)

  • Visual and performing arts
  • Physical Education
  • Mass Displays
  • Maths and Science
  • Social Studies (Family and Heritage Studies)
  • ICT

Junior School (Grades 3 to 7)

  • L1 languages
  • Mathematics
  • Social studies
  • Agriculture
  • ICT
  • Visual and performing arts
  • Family and Heritage Studies, and Religious Education
  • Physical Education, Sport and Mass Displays

Children also study the subjects below as part of the school curriculum. These are the foundation subjects:

  • Art and Design
  • Kiswahili
  • Zulu
  • French
  • Portuguese
  • Music

Children are also taught Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education. They are taught most lessons by their own class teacher in mixed ability classes. We aim to promote and challenge through high expectations of learning and behaviour. We also like to make learning fun for everyone!
